Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2024 Collection: Which Sunglasses Should You Choose?

History of Saint Laurent

The Saint Laurent brand, originally known as "Yves Saint Laurent," was founded in 1961 by Yves Saint Laurent and his business and life partner, Pierre Berge. Shortly after leaving Dior, where he worked as chief creative director, the young Yves decided to create his own fashion house. His debut collection in 1962 was met with enthusiastic reviews, and the designer quickly gained a reputation as an innovator.

In the 1960s, Saint Laurent created designs that have made fashion history. The most notable example is the famous "Le Smoking" women's suit from 1966, which revolutionized the way women wore clothes. Another important moment in the designer's career was his first ready-to-wear collection, "Rive Gauche," in 1966, which made the brand more accessible and recognizable internationally.

The 1970s and 1980s were a period in which Saint Laurent strengthened its position, and Yves himself became a designer of all time. His designs inspired by the culture and design of Russia, China, and Africa are particularly noteworthy. The 1990s, on the other hand, were a difficult period for the brand. Yves struggled with serious health problems and addiction, and his collections were widely criticized. In 1999, Saint Laurent bought the Gucci Group (now Kering), leading to Yves's gradual retirement. His last show took place in 2002.

After the founder's departure, the brand had several designers who attempted to elevate the French brand to new heights. Nevertheless, it is Hedi Slimane (creative director since 2012) and Anthony Vaccarello (creative director since 2016) who will go down in fashion history as the designers who restored Saint Laurent's splendor.

Today, the brand is once again recognized as bold, creative, and innovative. The spring/summer 2024 collection is full of references to Yves's own work. It features smoky, earthy colors, transparent fabrics, and masculine cuts, including wide-leg jackets and jumpsuits. It's also worth paying attention to the sunglasses, which harmonize with the entire collection and give it a mysterious tone.
